The Association was started in 1993 by a group of 12 dental practice managers meeting in Birmingham. They met while taking a dedicated dental practice management training course and gained as much from meeting regularly, sharing ideas and experiences, as from the formal content of the course. From these small beginnings, the Association has grown to the nation-wide organisation, which exists today. |

About the Foundation Established by the Oregon Dental Association in 1982, the Oregon Dental Foundation is governed by a board of volunteer dentists and public members. Dentist members are elected by the Board of Trustees of the Oregon Dental Association. Many of the dentist members of the board are leaders of their profession, providing clinical expertise to make the wisest use of Foundation resources. The Oregon Dental Foundation uses its leadership and clinical expertise to shape the discussion and find solutions to dental access issues. ODF representatives meet regularly with health care groups to discuss effective solutions to the dental needs of under-served Oregonians. ODF uses its clinical expertise to assist other health care foundations in evaluating the scope and effectiveness of prospective dental grant awards. ODF representatives serve as advisors to community organizations to help create sustained and strategic efforts to address unmet dental needs. The Foundation received a major grant of $1 million from ODS Health Plans in 1997 to help build its permanent endowment. Additional gifts have been contributed by other organizations and individual donors through ongoing fund-raising activities. The Oregon Dental Foundation is an affiliate of the Oregon Community Foundation which provides administrative and investment support to ODF.
